In less than 1 year we went from 2 horses, to 7 horses, which is a challenge because of the logistics and structure which needs to be put in place. We worked very hard to get all required boxes and paddocks ready! The pleasure to have all the horses around the house, out waits by far the work it takes! Apart from the increase in number we started also breeding horses, which is fascinating, wonderful and intense.
We eagerly awaited the birth of our first foal. For the mare Tocqueville it was her first time and she was 2 weeks late! 2 weeks like that seem very long even if it's quite normal! Finally on Monday night April second I saw the 1st drops of milk. 8 hours later the foal was born! I followed the whole process very close and was present at the birth, which was amazing in every sense. The mare had total confidence and allowed me in her box! All the work, patience and passion I had put into establishing the trust of the mare was rewarded. Sitting on a bail of straw I was present during the birth and assisted when needed. From the moment the foal is born the education starts, in the sense it's very important to establish a bond with the foal immediately! It's touching and moving to see how the relations are constructed between mother and child. Tocqueville turns out to be an excellent mother! Tocquegold is a very lively male foal and has all the characteristics of a racing horse! 3 more foals to follow!
