And Then I found a Raden Saleh in St Amand Montrond!

By chance I read in the local newspaper an article about a painting of Raden Saleh, the 19th century painter from Java. He lived for a while in France and the Louvre bought a painting of him which they have given on loan to the town St Amand Montrond since 1912.
When Jaya Ibrahim Pratomo came to visit it was the moment to organise a visit to this 'unknown' painting.
It was not a disappointment, it's beautiful! In good condition and very well painted. It's a Javanese scene full of symbolism as he had strong ideas on the position of the Javanese and their need to emanicipation and independence. Jaya explained to the French all those different meanings, which was an eye opener and very much appreciated.
Jaya is most probably the 1st Indonesian who has ever seen this painting which can be considered an important work by Raden Saleh.
We were both more than pleased to make this discovery.
Waiting for the article in the local newspaper about our visit.
